STB Announces Inaugural Meeting of the Passenger Rail Advisory Committee

The Surface Transportation Board today announced that the first meeting of the newly formed Passenger Rail Advisory Committee (PRAC) will be held on October 16, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. E.T. at the Surface Transportation Board headquarters at 395 E Street, S.W., Washington, DC  20423.

Potential agenda items for this meeting include the introduction of PRAC members, election of PRAC officers, discussion of topics for the committee to explore and goals for the committee, a presentation by the Board’s Office of Passenger Rail, a briefing for PRAC members on FACA and ethical requirements, and the operation of the committee at future meetings.  The PRAC meetings are open to the public and will be held at least twice a year.

The PRAC has been established in accordance with the Federal Advisory Committee Act, 5 U.S.C. Chapter 10, to help the Board better fulfill its statutory responsibilities in overseeing certain aspects of passenger rail service.  The Board announced the formation of the PRAC in November 2023 and announced the appointment of 21 voting members in March 2024.  The PRAC’s members are a balanced representation of individuals knowledgeable in passenger rail transportation, freight rail transportation, commuter rail operations, rail labor, and transportation public policy.  The webpage for the Passenger Rail Advisory Committee may be viewed here.
